“Worldwide obsession” The song you can’t escape!” LILLY by Vincent Fernandes cascia – Mogachi Lahran
The Konkani music scene has been buzzing with one song that has captured hearts globally—”Lilly” by Vincent Fernandes Cascia.
Released as part of his 11th album, Lilly has achieved a remarkable feat, with over a million collective views across social media platforms. It has become a go-to song for weddings, celebrations and shows, not just in Mangalore but also in places like Goa, Bombay and internationally in Dubai, Sharjah, Australia, the UK, USA and even parts of Europe.
For Vincent Fernandes, the song’s success has been nothing short of a phenomenon. “It’s a miracle,” he says. “In this time and age, when new songs are released daily, Lilly has managed to hold its ground and stay relevant. The fan mails keep pouring in from all over the world.”
But what many may not know is that Lilly almost didn’t make it to the album. “It was the last song we recorded,” Vincent reveals. “I wasn’t sure about including it at first, but Ashith Pinto, the music maestro, insisted. He was confident that Lilly was going to be a hit.”
In fact, Vincent had given Ashith around 18 songs for this album, out of which Lilly was Ashith’s first choice. “He is the one who suggested we change the beat to Mangalorean Baila,” Vincent shares.
Ashith was convinced the song was superb, especially as it featured three dialects: Konkani, Kannada and Tulu. Vincent suggested adding a saxophone piece to the song and Ashith ensured that all technical aspects were perfectly executed. (Ashith Pinto, who was the director of production at Daijiworld Media, now works for Canada’s 2nd largest media company in the post production department. Ashith is also the founding member of Do Re Ma Fa Creations, a banner to promote Konkani music, art and culture in Canada which has created history by getting 100 participants on one stage for “Konkani Utsav” a mega event held in Canada on January 26, this year)
During the recording process, Vincent took a break from the studio and it was during this time that something magical happened. Ronnie Valencia, his close friend and colleague, recounts:
“We had been working for hours in the studio and Vincent was a bit worn out. I suggested we take a break and go out for an hour to clear our heads. When we returned, we decided to record Lilly just for fun. It was a relaxed session, no pressure—just the joy of making music. We had no idea that this casual recording would turn into the massive hit it is today!”
Ronnie continues with a laugh, “It’s funny because we weren’t even thinking about making a hit at that moment. It was just about having a good time. But sometimes, that’s how the best songs are born—without expectations!”
While Lilly has seen widespread success, Vincent is not as focused on the monetary side of things. “People are enjoying the song and that is my true reward,” he says, although he does admit that fan uploads and remixes of the song on various platforms have not always been financially rewarding for him. “The revenue isn’t being shared, but the joy people are finding in the song makes up for it.”
Vincent’s latest track, Sobith thun Mana, sung by Vijay Yesudas, the son of legendary K.J. Yesudas, was uploaded recently on YouTube and is slowly gaining momentum. This romantic number is being appreciated by many and Vincent is excited to see where it leads.
When asked about international performances, Vincent says there have been a few inquiries. “We’ll wait and see,” he teases, leaving fans hopeful that they may get to see him perform abroad soon.
As Lilly continues to resonate across the globe, Vincent remains a humble yet passionate creator, always looking forward to bringing joy through his music.
We thank Vincent Fernandes Cascia for his unwavering love and dedication to Konkani entertainment. Wishing him the best in his future endeavors, we look forward to many more of his melodies in the coming years.
