‘Bizathon 2025’ – A Platform for Budding Entrepreneurs at Saint Philomena College (Autonomous) Puttur

The Department of Business Administration at Saint Philomena College successfully hosted ‘Bizathon 2025’, a unique student-led fest designed to hone entrepreneurial thinking, analytical acumen and collaborative problem-solving among BBA students. The event served as a dynamic learning platform where students were encouraged to engage with real-world business challenges in an experiential format.

Designed exclusively for BBA students, ‘Bizathon 2025’ offered a medley of competitive events including Business Debate, Corporate Role Play, Treasure Hunt, Business Quiz, Mad Ads and more. The centrepiece of the fest was the Bizathon Challenge itself. It is an intensive four-hour task where student teams were presented with a real-time business problem and asked to devise innovative and feasible solutions. The exercise not only stimulated critical and lateral thinking but also adopted teamwork and time-bound decision-making.

Presiding over the event Rev. Dr Antony Prakash Monteiro, Principal of the college acclaimed the  efforts of the department to blend theory with practice through such ‘mind-work’ engagements. In his presidential address he remarked: “Hackathons are not merely competitions, they are launchpads where ideas take shape. They train students to perform under pressure, to convert ambiguity into clarity and to transform challenges into opportunities. The solution you build today might become tomorrow’s enterprise. Such events cultivate crucial skills like collaborative participation, time management, stress handling and practical problem-solving which are all necessary for future entrepreneurs.”

Dr Monteiro further announced the launch of a new academic program BBA in Business Analytics from the upcoming academic year. Tailored to meet industry demands, this program aims to bridge the gap between undergraduate education and enterprise needs. The curriculum will blend modern analytics with core business principles, offering modules in data visualization, machine learning, statistical modelling and industry engagement through internships, live projects and workshops. This initiative, he said, will provide students with immersive, hands-on training aligned with both data-driven decision-making and ethical sensibilities.

The inaugural ceremony began with a welcome address by Priya K. The vote of thanks was proposed by Likhith R. and Anagha compered the event. Dr Radhakrishna Gowda, Head of the Department of Business Administration and the chief coordinator of the fest, provided an overview of the event and praised the enthusiasm and active participation of the students. He emphasized how such platforms reflect the commitment of the department to shaping industry-ready graduates. The event was coordinated by Pushpa N., co-ordinator of the Management Association. Prashanth Rai, Assistant Professor and Abhishek Suvarna, Deputy Controller of Examinations, provided valuable guidance and mentorship to the students throughout the event. The program concluded with a prize distribution ceremony.
