Saint Raymond Convent, Vamanjoor Celebrates Golden Jubilee of Faithful Service
Saint Raymond Convent, Vamanjoor, joyfully celebrated its Golden Jubilee, marking 50 years of dedicated service in faith, education and healing. The milestone commemorated the faithful presence and mission of the Congregation of the Sisters of the Little Flower of Bethany, Mangaluru, whose charism of compassionate love, simplicity and selfless service has touched countless lives.

Founded in 1976 under the patronage of Saint Raymond of Penyafort, the convent began its journey with Sr Louise as the first Superior, along with Sr Veronica, Sr Afflicta, Sr Genevira and Sr Alphonsine. Over five decades, generations of Bethany Sisters have faithfully served the poor, the marginalized and neglected children, especially through their commitment to education in and around Vamanjoor.

The Jubilee Eucharistic Celebration was held on Saturday, 31 January 2026, at 10.00 a.m., presided over by Rev. Msgr Maxim L. Noronha, Vicar General of the Diocese of Mangalore. In his homily, he quoted Pope Francis: “What would the Church be without religious sisters and consecrated laywomen? The Church cannot be understood without them.” He expressed deep appreciation for the Sisters’ tireless service and described the Jubilee as a celebration of love lived in community, silent prayer, caring and sharing, and God’s abiding faithfulness. He also recalled the vision of Mgr Raymond, Founder of the Bethany Congregation, highlighting how the Sisters’ presence has been a channel of grace and goodness among the people.

The jubilee felicitation programme was presided over by Rev. Sr M. Rose Celine BS, Superior General of the Congregation. She praised the courage and dedication of the pioneers and all the Sisters who have contributed to the mission over the years. Fondly recalling her presence at the canonical erection of the community in 1976, she expressed gratitude to all Provincial Superiors, Superiors and members who served the convent. She also congratulated Sr Lavita BS and the community for faithfully caring for the elderly Sisters and carrying forward the Founder’s vision.

Rev. Sr Lilly Pereira BS, Provincial Superior of Mangalore Province, graced the occasion as the Guest of Honour. In her address, she gratefully remembered Dr Paul Fernandes, the generous benefactor who gifted the land for the convent. She acknowledged the silent sacrifices and unwavering support of all the Superiors and Sisters whose quiet, value-based service has strengthened and expanded the mission in and around Vamanjoor.
Rev. Fr James Dsouza, Parish Priest of Saint Joseph the Worker Church, Vamanjoor, also expressed his appreciation and gratitude for the Sisters’ dedicated services rendered to the parish in various capacities.

The Golden Jubilee stood as a meaningful celebration of thanksgiving—for lives touched, faith nurtured, and hope renewed—recalling five decades of steadfast love, commitment and service to humanity. The presence of clergy, religious sisters, BLA members, well-wishers and the faithful added grace and solemnity to the occasion.
Sr Lavita Moras BS, Superior of Saint Raymond Convent, welcomed the gathering. Sr Sharon Preethi and Sr Sushmitha served as Masters of Ceremonies, while Sr Royline proposed the vote of thanks. The celebration concluded with a fellowship meal served to all.
