Saint Agnes PU College Marks World Environment Day with Awareness Programme and Beach Clean-Up Drive
Saint Agnes PU College observed World Environment Day with great enthusiasm by organizing a meaningful awareness programme centered on the theme “Nature: Our Future.” The event aimed to inspire students to become responsible environmental stewards and to promote sustainable practices for a greener future.
The chief guest, Rajesh Baligar, who has been serving as the Range Forest Officer, Mangalore Range, since 2023, addressed the gathering and delivered an inspiring message on the urgent need to protect and preserve nature. Emphasizing that environmental conservation is a shared responsibility, he encouraged students to adopt eco-friendly habits, minimize waste, conserve water, and actively participate in tree plantation initiatives. He highlighted that the small actions taken by individuals today can collectively create a healthier and more sustainable world for future generations.
Adding a creative dimension to the programme, students presented a thought-provoking drama on environmental conservation. The performance effectively conveyed the significance of safeguarding natural resources and inspired the audience to reflect on their role in protecting the environment.
The programme was graced by the presence of Vice Principal Sr Janet Sequeira and Ancilla, Lecturer in Statistics. As a symbolic gesture of commitment towards environmental sustainability, a sapling was planted on the college campus. Saplings were also distributed to interested students, encouraging them to nurture plants and contribute to a greener environment. To further promote environmental awareness, an Indoor Plant Competition was organized for both students and staff, fostering a culture of green living within the college community.
The event commenced with a warm welcome delivered by Thanvi. Christina efficiently compered the programme, ensuring its smooth and engaging flow, while Subhashini proposed the vote of thanks, expressing gratitude to all who contributed to the success of the event. As part of the World Environment Day celebrations, the college also organized a Beach Cleaning Drive at Panambur Beach. Around 50 students actively participated in the initiative, demonstrating their commitment to environmental responsibility. The drive not only contributed towards maintaining a clean and healthy coastal environment but also helped create awareness among students about the importance of protecting natural ecosystems and preserving the environment for future generations.
The entire programme was conducted under the able guidance of Dr Tressie Menezes, Abhaya Co-ordinator, whose efforts ensured the successful execution of the various activities. The World Environment Day observance at Saint Agnes PU College served as a powerful reminder that collective action and individual responsibility are essential in building a sustainable future and preserving the planet for generations to come.
