Artificial Intelligence Solutions in Healthcare at Saint Joseph’s University Bengaluru

The Faculty Development Program (FDP) on Artificial Intelligence Solutions in Healthcare was held from November 4th to 9th, 2024, at Saint Joseph’s University Bangalore, with 40 participants from various academic and research institutions.
The inaugural session featured Dr Sridharan Devarajan, Associate Professor at IISc Bangalore, as the Chief Guest, along with Dr Ronald Mascharenhas, Pro Vice-Chancellor and Dr Regina Mathias, Pro Vice-Chancellor. Prof. Dr Melwin Colaco, Registrar, Rev. Fr Denzil Lobo SJ, Dean of the School of IT, Dr Sivakannan S., FDP Coordinator welcomed the participants.
Rev. Fr Denzil Lobo in his address spoke about the various domains wherein AI is being applied. He said, “As all know how AI has emerged as a powerful tool which is not only transforming industries but revolutionizing the way we approach medicine and patient care”. He wished all the participants fruitful sessions. Dr Melwin Colaco in his address thanked Dr Shivakannan for organizing the FDP and wished the delegates all the best. Dr Annie Syrien proposed the vote of thanks.
The FDP included diverse sessions on topics such as brain computation, AI in bioinformatics, medical image analysis, clinical machine learning, and smarter healthcare solutions, delivered by eminent speakers from premier institutions like IISc Bangalore, IIT Tirupati and VIT Vellore among others.
Participants also benefited from hands-on training and insightful article discussions led by Dr Sivakannan S. They also had an industrial visit to Saint Philomena’s Hospital Bengaluru, to observe AI applications in a real-world healthcare setting. The program concluded with a valedictory session where Dr Sivakannan S. presented the FDP report, and Rev. Fr Denzil Lobo SJ delivered the closing address, emphasizing the transformative potential of AI in healthcare. Dr Annie Syrien delivered the vote of thanks, expressing gratitude to all contributors for making the FDP a success.
