Jubilee Year Inaugurated in Diocese of Belthangady at the Cathedral Church

On Sunday, December 29, the Diocese of Belthangady joyfully inaugurated its Jubilee Year with a grand ceremony at the Cathedral Church. The event was presided over by His Excellency Bishop Lawrence Mukkuzhy, along with the concelebration of Priests from across the diocese. Religious sisters and lay faithful gathered in large numbers to mark this historic occasion.

The ceremony commenced with the unveiling of the official Jubilee Symbol of Rome, signifying the Diocese’s spiritual unity with the Universal Jubilee inaugurated by Pope Francis in the Vatican. The symbol reflects the Jubilee theme, “Pilgrims of Hope,” and serves as a call for reconciliation, renewed faith and service.

The highlight of the event was the blessing of the Jubilee Cross by Bishop Lawrence Mukkuzhy. This cross, a powerful symbol of unity, faith and hope, will travel through every Parish in the Diocese throughout the Jubilee Year. Its journey represents a shared mission to strengthen the spiritual life of the faithful and foster community bonds.

In his message, Bishop Mukkuzhy urged the faithful to embrace the Jubilee as a sacred time for gratitude, renewal and commitment to the Gospel. He encouraged everyone to participate actively in the year’s events and to live as “Pilgrims of Hope,” reaching out to those in need and promoting unity. The ceremony included a Eucharistic celebration, cultural performances and the ceremonial handover of the Jubilee Cross to parish representatives, marking the beginning of its year-long journey through the diocese.

The faithful departed with renewed enthusiasm, ready to journey together through the Jubilee Year, inspired by the Jubilee’s spiritual significance and the leadership of Bishop Lawrence Mukkuzhy.
