Monsignor James Patteril CMF Appointed Bishop-Elect of Belthangady Diocese
The Diocese of Belthangady joyfully announces the appointment of Monsignor James Patteril CMF as the Bishop-Elect of Belthangady. A Priest of deep faith, rich pastoral experience and proven administrative ability, Msgr. Patteril brings over three decades of dedicated service to the Church, both in India and abroad.

Early Life and Formation
Rev. Msgr. James Patteril was born on 27 July 1962 in Battiyal, Mangalore, Karnataka, to late Abraham Patteril and Rosamma Patteril. He joined the Congregation of Missionaries, Sons of the Immaculate Heart of Mary (Claretians), making his First Profession in 1982 at Claret Bhavan, Carmelaram, Bangalore and Final Vows in 1988 at Claret Bhavan, Kuravilangad, Kerala. He was ordained a priest on 26 April 1990 at St. Sebastian’s Church, Kalenja.
He completed his Philosophy and Theology at Saint Peter’s Pontifical Seminary, Bangalore and soon after, began his pastoral mission in Germany.

Ministry and Leadership
Throughout his ministry, Bishop-Elect Patteril has held several significant responsibilities, reflecting his pastoral zeal and financial stewardship:
Assistant Parish Priest – Saint Thomas Forane Church Udane, Nettana & Guthigar (1990–1991)
Econome – (Finance Manager) Claret Bhavan, Kuravilangad (1991–1994)
Hospital Chaplain – Flörsheim, Germany (1997–2004)
Econome (Finance Manager) – Claretiner-Seminar, Frankfurt (1998–2004)
Provincial Econome (since 2004)
Superior – Würzburg House (2005–2008, 2010–2011)
Mission Procurator – Coordinating projects and financial support from collaborators worldwide (since 2008)

Known for his simplicity, compassion and dedication to missionary service, Bishop-Elect Patteril’s appointment has been welcomed with great joy by the faithful of Belthangady Diocese. His vast international experience in pastoral care and administration is expected to enrich the spiritual and social mission of the diocese.
As he prepares to assume his episcopal ministry, the Diocese invites all the faithful to pray that the Holy Spirit may guide Bishop-Elect James Patteril CMF and bless his mission of shepherding the people of God in Belthangady.
