Mangalore to Host 5th National Finswimming Championship 2025 from December 19

The coastal city of Mangalore is set to host the 5th National Finswimming Championship 2025 from December 19 to 22, 2025, at the Yemmekere International Swimming Pool. The prestigious national-level event is being organized by the Underwater Sports Federation of India (USFI) in association with the Physical Education Foundation of India (PEFI) and the Karnataka Finswimming Association.

Addressing the media at a press conference held at the Mangalore Press Club, Dronacharya Awardee and renowned swimming coach Tapan Panigrahi shared key insights into the championship. He announced that the 2025 edition has recorded unprecedented participation, with over 1,400 swimmers from more than 400 districts across 30 states registering for the event. A total of 144 competitive events will be conducted, with 458 medals to be contested across various age categories and both genders during the four-day championship.

Speaking on the occasion, Ram Kishan Rao, official of the Karnataka Finswimming Association, expressed confidence in the strong representation and performance of swimmers from the host state. He also noted that special attention will be on West Bengal, which enters the championship as the three-time National Overall Champion, having consistently dominated previous editions of the tournament. The organizers elaborated on arrangements related to accommodation, transportation, and logistics for athletes and officials. In view of current travel challenges, including flight uncertainties, the Karnataka Finswimming Association assured that comprehensive contingency plans have been put in place to ensure smooth participation of all teams. The organizing committee emphasized that athlete safety and welfare will remain the highest priority, with strict implementation of all necessary safety protocols.

A significant highlight of the championship is the involvement of the National Anti-Doping Agency (NADA) from the very first day of competition. NADA officials will conduct daily Anti-Doping Awareness Sessions for athletes and coaches—an initiative unique to this championship—aimed at promoting clean sport, ethical competition, and true sportsmanship. With record participation, strong organizational backing, and a focus on integrity in sports, the 5th National Finswimming Championship 2025 promises to be a landmark event in Indian aquatic sports.
