CRI Mangalore Celebrates Day of Consecrated Life with Youth, Fostering Dialogue and Discernment

The Conference of Religious India (CRI), Mangalore, celebrated the Day of Consecrated Life with the Youth on February 1, 2026, at the Loyola Auditorium, Saint Aloysius College, Mangalore. The programme brought together consecrated persons and young people in a spirit of prayer, reflection, and dialogue, centred on the theme “A Day of Consecrated Life with the Youth.”

The event began with a solemn inaugural ceremony, symbolically expressing the joy of consecrated life through a heart affixed to a lighted candle. Rev. Fr Sylvester Dsouza, OCD, Provincial, inaugurated the programme. Participants entered the auditorium holding candles, creating a deeply prayerful and reflective atmosphere. The celebration continued with the Holy Eucharist, presided over by Rev. Fr Sylvester Dsouza. In his homily, he spoke on the joy and commitment of consecrated life, quoting Pope Francis, who urges religious to be joyful, approachable, and compassionate witnesses, particularly to the youth.

Following a short break, a lively and enriching panel discussion was led by Rev. Fr Melwin Pinto, SJ. The youth candidly shared their expectations and concerns, highlighting the need for religious to be more approachable, transparent, supportive and attentive listeners. Key themes such as confidentiality, effective communication, moral support, and guidance in discerning God’s call amid modern-day challenges were strongly emphasised.

An enactment by the youth added depth and relevance to the programme, portraying real-life struggles faced by young people today. The presentations addressed themes such as the influence of mobile phones and social media versus God’s call, modern lifestyles and religious vocation, changes in Christian family life and religious life as a counter-cultural witness of service and prayer. These enactments proved thought-provoking and encouraged meaningful reflection among both the youth and consecrated persons.

As a token of appreciation, mementoes were presented to the panel members, youth representatives, CRI Executive Committee members, Zonal Presidents, and the Secretary. The programme concluded with a heartfelt vote of thanks by the CRI President, Rev. Fr Dominic Vas, followed by lunch.

The event witnessed the participation of around 650 Priests and religious, along with 120 youth. The day was marked by meaningful interaction, mutual understanding, and a renewed commitment to walk together in faith, making the celebration a memorable and successful one.
