Bishop Peter Paul Saldanha Urges Youth to Inspire Community at ICYM ‘PYSTAR 2026’
The Indian Catholic Youth Movement (ICYM) of the Diocese of Mangalore successfully organized “PYSTAR 2026,” a comprehensive leadership and office-bearers’ training program, at Lourdes Central School, Bejai. The event brought together youth leaders from across the diocese to enhance their leadership skills, launch key digital initiatives, and celebrate outstanding unit achievements.
Empowering Youth Through Leadership & Faith:
The program commenced with a digital inauguration highlighting key ICYM roles: President, Youcat, Secretary, Treasurer, Amcho Yuvak/PRO, and Red Drop.
Rev. Fr Alwyn Richard Dsouza, Director of the Family Life Centre, served as the Chief Guest for the inaugural session. Addressing the gathering, Rev. Fr Dsouza spoke on the vital role of family life for today’s youth, navigating the challenges of interfaith marriages, and the value of shared backgrounds in fostering family harmony. Following the inaugural ceremony, specialized training sessions were conducted by expert resource persons tailored for specific leadership roles, alongside a solemn Holy Eucharistic celebration.
Digital Launches and Strategic Growth:
The valedictory ceremony marked major milestones for the diocese’s digital and print media footprint:
* Yuva Seva Trust Website: Formally launched by Most Rev. Dr Peter Paul Saldanha, Bishop of Mangalore Diocese. This new portal centralizes youth-driven social initiatives such as blood donation, hair donation, and environmental awareness campaigns. ICYM Mangalore Diocese President Vijoy Ashwin Cardoza was felicitated for his leadership in executing the project.
* Amcho Yuvak Magazine & Logo: The latest edition and a brand-new contemporary logo for the Amcho Yuvak magazine were officially unveiled by the dignitaries, coordinated by Representative Royston Robin Rodrigues.
In his address, Bishop Peter Paul Saldanha emphasized the unique identity ICYM holds within the Church. He urged the youth to root their leadership in prayer, foster a deep sense of belonging, and actively inspire peers to participate in community and Church associations.
Entrepreneur John Errol Samuel was also felicitated at the event. He encouraged participants to seize the vast opportunities available to modern youth while maintaining a strong, meaningful relationship with God.
Annual Awards: Recognizing Excellence
A major highlight of the event was the annual award ceremony, conducted by Rev. Fr Ashwin Lohith Cardoza, celebrating the top-performing deaneries and units for their year-round dedication.
